Mepis Low Package # in apt?

I downloaded SimplyMepis 3.3.1, because it sounded exactly like what I was looking for, but then I found out it had XFree86 (not good for me) and it had low packages in apt, like it didn't have X.org, it didnt have the glib I needed nor did it have nano, and there were also very few packages that weren't already installed on the system.

I ran, apt-get update, and apt-get upgrade, but it did nothing, if I reinstall apt, will it fix that problem, or is there some other command I need to do.

Here is what I was advised to do and it worked fantastic - open up synaptic>settings>repositories and check the boxes of the other sources and reload.

Do this and you will have hundreds of new things - everything you're looking and lots more!

"Selecting the Source by Editing the Sources List
You can directly edit /etc/apt/sources.list

You can add extra package sources to the end of the file. You can use the predefined source entires as examples.

If you edit the predefined entires, be very careful to retain the sturcture of the file."

Try looking here apt-get.org: Unofficial APT repositories http://www.apt-get.org/ if you need/want more sources.
