Mepis eth0 question
My network/interent connection works fine when I first boot up. However, I lose it after the PC has been sitting idle. I try to restart it in the OS center to no avail. Whats the deal?

more info needed. Is this on a laptop? My best guess is that your power settings are telling your pcmcia card to sleep after a certain time. Check your settings in kcontrol/power

Actually, it is a clean install on a desktop using DHCP. It does sound like something is going to sleep, but kcontrol doesn't have any thing set up other than "show battery monitor".

Yes., it is. It seems to be random though. My PC has been on for 24 hours now, and not a problem. But I could very well walk back in here in 5 minutes and there will be no internet connection forcing a reboot.

Are you using a router to assign DHCP? Maybe the router is releasing the IP address and not assigning a new one? Check the router settings for lease time and other parms relating to DHCP.

Right click on the Battery Monitor on the task bar and see if there is some config value that his some power setting or some kind of shut-down timer.. I'd get rid of the darn thing anyway since you are not using a laptop. I'll bet a doughnut that this causes some background process to run (check process table in system monitor) that is screwing up.
