Mepis ( and other distros) freezes during various operations


[]Below is part of syslog for last startup. i have been getting freezes for no apparent reason during various operations, some programe others while in a shell. It happens in Windows XP as well as a couple of distros I am trying, ArkLinux and Knoppix.

could please advise what on earth this means and how to fix it.

1.8MHz Celeron
Gigabyte Titan P4 667 m/board.
512MB RAM
ATI Radeon 9550 video card

Help would be much appreciated

My experience has been that this is a video problem. GUI interfaces need quite a bit of video ram and processing power. You can try lowering your screen resolution or changing the video card to one that does all of the video processing on the card itself or make sure you have the correct drivers installed.

just a segeston but try the memory test in meips.
