MEPIS 3.3.1 Gateway Firewall

Hi,

I seen the GuardDog firewall with the SimplyMEPIS3.3.1 and I just want to use one of my MEPIS boxes for a firewall. I want to block ALL ports except for 3 specific ports. How do I go about doing this easily with MEPIS? Just blockign all TCP/UDP ports except for 3 of them. Also, how do I set it up to be an Internet gateway. I got two NICs installed and I want to make an internet gateway so I plug one NIC into my modem and the other NIC will be connected to LAN. Thanks

First.. I haven't used Guardog.. but from reading other posts..
FireStarter (another GUI front end for iptables) is apparently
eaiser to use than Guardog..

What about for setting up the gateway/port forwarding? I'll give firestarter a shot.

You just have to enable ipv4 forwarding..
not sure how to do this with the GUI..
I "think" it is located in the "OS Center"..

as far as the command line..
it is somewhere under /etc/

not sure where on Mepis..
(on RHEL4, sorry my Mepis box is not available to me right now)
but it should be something like this
net.ipv4.ip_forward = 0

you change the 0 to a 1...

also.. you have to have 2 NICs in your machine..
