Mempis 3.3.1 very slow, also two other problems

Good day everyone.

I have three problems with Mepis 3.3.1 which I can't find the
answers to after searching these forums. I am sure I'm not
using the proper search terms, so needless to say I could use
some help from someone which may have had similiar problems.

First problem: I installed Firefox 1.4 and from that point on I can't
get Konqueror to work at all. I have tried to set Konq. as the default
browser, no cigar. I also tried to uncheck the tick box in Fx which
makes Fx the default browser, again, no cigar. When I enter something
in the location bar of Konq. it runs Fx. It's as if Fx has hijacked Konq.

Second problem: Mempis has started running very slow compared to
what it did when I first installed it. It was running slow even before the
upgrade of Fx. The same desktop, KDE, no other addons.

Third problem: I can't use any sites which require any upload from
my computer to the site I wish to use. Any site with a submit feature.
I can't preview my auction listings before posting them when I use
any HTML. I can list anything I like as long as it has no HTML.
When I click the submit button the browser goes to "Sending
Request To" and freezes. Also, I can't upload any photos to any photo
hosting service, the same thing, just freezes.

I have no idea as to what has happened. I asked this on the Fx forums
and either no one knew the answer or it was a secret which no one wanted
to share. If anyone has any ideas it sure would be appreciated.

Thank you very much
Dooley

What's 1.4? Do you mean 1.0.4 or 1.5? There is no 1.4, as far as I know.
How did you install Firefox? Did you download the .tar.gz from Mozilla? Or did you use Synaptic/apt-get to install it?

Firefox v1.07 in apt soon.

Firefox v1.07 will be in apt real soon.
That's the version I want, some big bug fixes.
Hate some bugs.
My Firefox v1.06-5 from apt working well for me @ the moment, I'd stay away from the Deerpark beta if you like your extensions working.

Thanks for both replies.

This is the version of Fx:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8b4) Gecko/20050908 Firefox/1.4.

I always use the tar.gz.

I do appreciate the help but I am still in the dark as to what has
happened, or why it is happening.

I truly don't think the Fx build number would affect the performace
of Mepis to the extent of slowing the system down this much.

Thanks again.
