MBR problems using Mepis 6.5.00
I installed Mepis 6.5.00 64 bit on my new HP desktop. The processor is AMD 64X2 4600. O/S is Windows Vista home premium. The hard drive has been partition with Linux on sda6. Grub only show Mepis on sda6 and does not show windows. The only way to get to windows was to installed Suse Linux over Mepis . Is there somethings I can do to get grub in Mepis to work? I don't know why Suse will work and not Mepis. I want to use Mepis not Suse.

Start by having a look at your /boot/menu.lst file and specifically at the entry for Vista. You should be able to get a clue from that. What are the differences in SUSE's version from Mepis' version? Also, you would not be the first to have problems with the MBR and Vista, regardless of whether the computer is dual-booting with another operating system. Vista has been known to trash the master boot record. There are even utilities on the Internet specifically designed to deal with this Vista issue.

Warren is going to fix the Vista thing with Grub in a mini updated version of the latest ISO. It should be released very shortly. Since not many testers were using Vista he didn't realize this little glitch existed but he is going to accomodate you people who dual boot Vista with the fix on the updated ISO.
For now perhaps you could reinstall X using the Mepis LiveCD and then copy the Vista entry from the SuSe /boot/grub/menu.lst once you have booted back up with Mepis and paste it in the Mepis /boot/grub/menu.lst .
On the live CD goto K>System>Mepis>MepisSystemAssistant>RepairSystemBoot .
