just some concerns...

Hi I'm using the live cd of Mepis right now... i'm having problems trying to write files... it won't let me edit the sources list, and synaptic won't load anything from the repositories... is this something to deal with running off of the live cd? im logged as root, but i still cant change or do much within synaptic... when i open synaptic i get this:

--------
E: Unable to write to /var/cache/apt/
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.

W: Not using locking for read only lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock
--------

and when i try to reload repositories, it says that it can not load the files and to check if i have network problems...

im assuming that it's because i'm running the live cd... do i need to install mepis and then be able to write data and configure synaptic?

when i open the sources.list with KEdit logged in as root, when i try to save, i get an error saying "unable to write to file"

??? ;(
thanks.

You get the errors because you can't write to a CD. If you install Mepis, all that will be fixed.

I'm not for sure but some livecds will let you save changes to a floppy disk and can use it for later.

Not certain if that applies to the sources.list file though. Check with Mepis website on this.
