internet problem with inspiron 2200 laptop
hey i cant connect with my cable internet... i dont think its pickin up the card or anything.. theres an icon down the botton left and when i click on it , it says theres no networks in range.. i have a router hooked up.. could that be the problem? the network card is a onboard intel pro 100/ve network card... any sudgestions ... im running 3.3.1 i just tried teh live version i didnt full install yet.. maybe if i fully install it it might work?

You might try booting into the older kernel 2.4.28 (.29?) instead of the more recent 2.6.10 and see if the card is picked up. (Not sure, but you might have to install Mepis to have that option.)

ok im new to linux.. what do ya mean by different kernal... u mean different version of the linux?... im gonna do some googleing now but if u dont mind giveing me some help here that would be great... and when i go to install it it will only let me install it on my main partition that i have windows on and wanna keep..

intel pro 100 ethernet cards are only supported in the 2.6 kernel as an experimental module, in the 2.6.12 kernel it is the eepro100 module, im not sure if thats what they call it in 2.6.10 or not but it cant hurt to try and see
open up a console and type in "su" without the quotes and hit enter, this will bring you to a "password:" prompt. type in the password of your root account* and hit enter next type "modprobe eepro100" without the quotes and hit enter, if we do not get any output then we have success. in this case type "ifconfig eth0 up" again without the quotes. otherwise report back to us of the error you get.

and the cd i have when i go to Boot from it it goes into a live session and the i can istall form there But how do i make a parition ext3 formated from ntfs.. it wont let me pick the secod partition ... i still want dual Boot on my laptop for windows for games lol
