Black Screen?

For starters use your MEPIS live CD to reinstall X. This will get you back to a usable system. What version of MEPIS are you using? How did you try to install the new Nvidia driver? Using the MEPIS utility or directly from the Nvidia site?

I am using 6.00-4 beta 1. I have already killed the partition and reset things up since I wanted a bigger swap anyway. I used the MEPIS utility. I might as well get BETA 3 I guess...

Good Choice!

I'm using 6.04 beta3 as my primary OS. Can't wait until 6.04 final! Have you visited http://www.mepislovers.com/forums/ ?
