Installing New Programs

I have just installed MEPIS today, and I'm not all that sure on how to install things, even with the howto instructions that come along with the programs. Maybe because I download stuff to /root/Documents/? Don't know. Kopete would be nice to have, but like I said, haven't got around to figuring the whole installing thing out yet. It'd be nice if someone would be able to help me with it.

Learn how to use Kpackage or Synaptic. That is what you will use. Go to mepislovers.org and click on the wiki and READ IT!!!!! It will take all of about an hour... and you don't have to read or understand everything but when you are done you will be a lot smarter and more confident than you are right now.
