I was trying to install on my old notebook, a sony VIAO PCG-441L, I found that the the CDROM is able to boot up, but sometime later, it shows something like "cannot start filesystem" and it's halted.

I've tried different selection on GRUB, i.e. old h/w, newer h/w, base, they all don't seem worked.

On the contrary, I give Ubuntu a try, it installs on the NB without any problem, and it can detect MY USB hard drive automatically, so good, however, I have been having good Linux experience with MEPIS, I'd stick to it anyway. Ubuntu seems do not has a normal 'root' account that I used to.

Anyone knows why I can't install?

I forgot to mention that it's not a CDROM problem, I have used the same CD to install my other desktop without any problem.
