How to install Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 in Mepis 3.4.3?

Guys,

I have this laptop with Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900. I have successfully installed Mepis 3.4.3 but the screen is not that good. Especially if you are watching DVD. Can someone help me out? I am kinda new to Mepis and tweaking hardwares for Linux. What packages should I download? Do I have to recompile the kernel? Please teach me the step-by-step ...Thanks.

For watching a dvd - make sure you have dma enabled for the dvd drive.

Here is an article about your chipset:
http://www.intel.com/cd/ids/develope...974.htm?page=3

there is a link to a driver page.
http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...ort_Intel.aspx

However, you should check that there isn't already a driver package specifically for Mepis/Debian. (It is very likely there is one, and very unlikely that you will have to compile anything. Have fun.)

If you installed mepis for games/multimedia support out of the box, I'm looking at a spanish distro "LinEx" and it's home/school version "Extreme Linux".
www.linex.org (spanish - the english page is: http://www.linex.org/linex2/linex/ingles/index_ing.html)

Use i810 driver in xorg.conf

Use i810 driver in xorg.conf

i810 driver is included with almost every distro and works well

specify
Driver "i810"
in xorg.conf
==
itazev -- if you want slackware answers, please post in slackware forum -- this is the Mepis forum -- but I do suggest trying i810 driver -- will not need to compile it
