how do I set up my scanner?
Is there a program in MEPIS for setting up and using a scanner? I looked in the K menu, but didn't find anything that looked like a scanner utility. And I have a Canon Canoscan LiDE 60.

Confirmed: it's under "Graphics" in both 3.3.2 & 6.

When I try to open the scanner Icon Kooka I get the message that I don't have permission. I am the only user. I am running 7.0. How do I change that? If I click the Icon and click properties the permission tab is grey. and says that root is the owner.

Hi
You have to check if you are in the correct group.
Just have a look in the KDE Pim utility.
You must add yourself in the scanner group.
Don't remember how it works for KDE, though, but that's basically what you need.
cheers

Hello. I don't have anything to say about Salsa4u's question, but since this thread is evidently being looked at, I might mention that Kooka worked to my satisfaction.
I was impressed that it worked with my Canon Canoscan LIDE 60, because I'm pretty sure the model is newer than my Canon i850 printer, which still isn't well-supported in Linux even with Turboprint. (I think I successfully printed something the last time I tried, but it was a matter of doing driver research and using a BJC driver meant for some other model.) Printer support would seem more difficult than scanner support.
