you need to visit http://www.mepislovers-wiki.org/inde...e=Sources.list to get "current sources.list". and then add it to your Apt list (can be done in Synaptic)
BUT i cannot promise that this will work...

I did install nicely but many functions did not work. For example, I could not start eth0 from the OSCenter. It seems that Mepis uses defferent commands. I think if we can get the source code we will be able to make use of it. Do you have an idea from where I can get the source package?

As far as I am aware, Mepis OScentre in not open-source.
But you could always ask at

Can it install the 3d graphics drivers on a non-Mepis OS? That alone would be worth the price of admission...

to use that feature you would also need to have the mepis kernel and the mepis repos, thats not going to work for you.

Installing the 3d graphics drivers in Kanotix are as simple as 123. Kanotix 2005-3 includes scripts for nvidia and ATI with all needed patches needed to get these cards up and running. So, if we get the source of the OScenter we can modify it to point to these secripts without the need for mepis kernel.

Was this ever solved? I remember at one time reading that the MepisOS Center was going open source...

Might want to take a look at PCLinuxOS, it has a great control center. AFAIK it is OSS, but you might want to check with Texstar.
Not sure about earlier version but the Kanotix Easter Preview has a pretty nice control center that is integrated with the KDE Control Center. There is even a Kanotix-Update-GUI that lets you change your sources.list, update the kernel, dist-upgrade, and add software that is the newer release.
Like someone else in the thread already stated installing ATI or Nvidia drivers is as simple as running a script, it takes care of the rest. You might want to takea look at the Manual on the Kanotix homepage.

So is MEPIS one of the distros that uses proprietary software?
Even if not, I am impressed by this idea. You are all saying that, but for problems with different commands and with the software not being open source, one can slop together favorite software (such as, in this case, control panels) from different distros and expect the resultant hybrid to work?

I wouldn't expect it to work with other distros.
