File Associations Don't "Stick" in SM 3.4.3

Hi all,

Running MEPIS 3.4.3 with KDE 3.5.1 and can't seem to get my file associations to stick. I have tried setting associations by right-clicking on the file to be opened and telling it to open with a certain app. I even get the little configuration update dialog, but then when I click another file of the same type, it goes right back to the old app. I've also tried updating through Control Center > KDE Components > File Assocations, but it's not helping either.

The specific error I'm trying to fix is that double clicking on MP3's on the desktop causes them to open in Kaffeine, and I would prefer that they open in XMMS.

If anyone could help, I'd appreciate it.
