Ethernet not working
Well, I've downloaded my first version of Linux and bam! The internet doesn't work. So I reboot and I see the errors I get are as follows:
Configureing network interfaces.... operation failed.
something blah... eth0 failed.
something blah... ath0 failed.
something blah... ra0 failed.
something blah... wlan0 failed.
The connections works great, that's what I'm using now on my windows box.
Does anyone know why this happens and/or how I can fix it? If so please reply, thank you.

It would help to know:
A. What type of connection you have, Dial-up,Cable,DSL...etc.
B. What card you use to connect to aformentioned connection.
We cant help you much without knowing atleast that much.

A.) Cable internet ran through a 4-port ethernet router.
B.) I'm using the built-in ethernet card for my 1200 Compaq laptop.
Anything else, ask away.

I think what Mos is asking for is:
Service (you gave this)
Router type
Ethernet Card brand/model etc..
(most ethernet cards are supported in Linux)
but not all are "natively" supported.. i.e. (like in windows.. you don't
need a driver for it..)
post some more info.. we will try and help..
a command that might help, type this in a terminal
window..(without the ")
this will see if Mepis recognizes the card..
"dmesg |grep eth0"
eth0: 3Com Gigabit LOM (3C940)
