DNS settings...

Hey guys... I have this small problem that I should be working with a certain DNS on my network so I go to OSCenter and enter it in the DNS tab and it works... However, when I restart my DNS settings are gone... Is there some file to write the DNS to or is there any way that I could save it instead of every time reentering it when I reboot...

Thank you

DNS information is kept in /etc/resolv.conf. (NOTE: non-Mepis person talking) Perhaps, this file is overwritten on reboot?

Perhaps someone who knows Mepis better could find out what script overwrites it every reboot?

When you entered the static DNS addresses did you go to the bottom of the box and click the Apply box? That will make the change permanent. After clicking on the Apply box you will get a message telling you to go to (I am not in Mepis at the moment.) the area where you start and stop your connection. I will reboot into Mepis and return.

edit: I am now in Mepis 6.0 rc3. What I meant to say was after clicking on Apply a message will appear telling you that the Internet connection data has been updated and will take effect after you restart the network. And it can be retstarted in the Status Tab.

I don't know which version of Mepis you are using. The newest ones have changed the menus so it is difficult to find where to enter the Network Interfaces. It can be done starting from System Configuration (Settings) to System Administration to Mepis Utilities to Network Interfaces.

More than a year ago in Mepis I too was puzzled that my network settings would disappear and not be there on the next reboot. I finally discovered that to make them permanent I needed to click on the Apply button and then go to the Status Tab stop the network connection for a moment and then restart it. That made the new settings permanent.
