.deb packages and Mepis
I'm going to start dual booting between Windoze and Mepis. My understanding is Mepis is Debian based. Does this mean that any .deb packages will install fine in Mepis? Specifically I need to install the NetZero software and it's only available in .deb.

Yea, you should be fine
I would just goto a console and do:
su
dpkg -i netzero.deb
also, ubuntu is another good debian based distro if you don't mind learning how to use gnome 2.10

My understanding is that the .deb packages will work if they are from the same tree and if they do not modify the kernal.
If you want to try another distro, Kubuntu will give you KDE.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I'm going to give Mepis a try dual booting so I don't completely lose connection. I may try Ubuntu as I've got a couple of their CDs.
As I'm actively working with Slackware, eventually I'll try converting that .deb package to use with Slackware.
