Cannot access my gmail account in Mepis
Somewhere along the way I seem to have done something (or something has happened) to my browsers (Firefox,Konqueror and Opera) which stops me from accessing my Gmail account.
I can access all other websites I visit, no problems, but at the Gmail log in I wait a bit then the page says "Done" but the account page never loads.
I have cleared my cache in all browsers, but the problem is the same.
It happens no matter whether I am logged in as root or as user.
Has anyone a suggestion about what might have happened? It wasn't always like this.

Thanks hippyhenge, but I think it is a Linux (well,Mepis) problem, because I can access my Gmail from my Windows laptop and desktop PC just fine.
The problem only happens on my Mepis machine and has been like this for a couple of weeks now.
At one time I was logged in a root doing some routine updates and while I was online, I decided to check my gmail.
I selected Konqueror by mistake, which threw up a cookie alert for the site (I had never used it before as web browser)
Instead of 'Accept', I hit the other button (reject or whatever) and the page didn't load.
Trouble is, even though I have cleared my Cache and Cookies in all browsers (as root and user) I still can't get my page to load. It does not throw up an 'Incorrect Password/User name' message. It seems to accept it just fine but at the bottom left corner (of Firefox) it says "Done" but nothing has changed.
I don't see how my pressing "don't accept" could have done this but it is the only thing I have done differently.

I've been using Gmail notifier in Firefox for a month or so, it stoped working couple of days ago -- I think Gmail changed something and that program it's not longer compatible.

new firefox gmail notifier
adrian thanks for the info, i just visited mozilla update and found this A notifier for Gmail accounts.
- Optional dropdown for the toolbar item to access labels (unread count per label is shown there as well as in the tooltip) - Get Gmail storage amount from screenscraping code, no longer hardcoded. - Option to only handle unread mail in inbox (rather than total unread) in Preferences. - GMail changed their login code again.
anyway there is a new version to download 0.5.0 and yes it works, https://addons.mozilla.org/extension...cation=firefox

Thanks folks for all this useful information.
I will try the kcheckgmail and whatever else I can to see if I can get it to work.
I have some other issues with Mepis I am trying to sort out, so have a few things to do yet.
I will get back to you with an update when I can.
