Wine or Crossover Office will be what you want.

What do you mean by stuff? Applications? Games? File Formats? (as .doc or .m3). Stuff has to be the most generic term ever. Try being as descriptive as possible =). There're some applications that allows you to run Windows applications under Linux. One of them is Wine:

www.winehq.com

There're others very well known too as Crossover Office (non-free) and Cedega, very good if you want to run Windows games in Linux.

The very best thing to do, however, is to stay away as much you can from those tools (except, perhaps Cedega ^_^) and run native applications for Linux. This list should help you to get started finding the equivalent applications for Linux:

Good luck!

Talking Stuff = everything

How about a something along the lines of a MS windows xp emulator.

I really just need an operating system that will Back-UP.
So I do not have to do a clean Install during my weekly hard drive crash.
By the time I run the reinstall disks, download the service packs, and then find out my files and apps won't reinstall from my expensive ripoffs back-up drive, on to the reinstalled op-sys; It just makes me sick.

I think MS has purposely made it difficult to just back-up C:\ op-sys and all.
And nothing you buy to back it all up together works.
They are evil and have put me through heck 1000 times.

But I hate to lose all my MS STUFF (everything).

If you want go hardcore, then you can install Windows inside Linux with emulators as qemu, bochs, VMware and other similar. I just totally fail to see the point of using Windows at all unless:

1 - You are a hardcore gamer;
2 - You need 100% compatibility with Windows (ex: your work uses only Windows and you need to do work at home)
3 - You simply can't find a Linux native application and the application you must use simply won't work in Linux even through Wine or Crossvover, etc.

So, what is it that you need in Windows so much that Linux won't do? ^_^.

If you mean data, text files, pictures, music and the such you can use them all in Linux. Linux is quite compatible with MS files. As for software, we can probably direct you to packages that will do the same things as you did in windose.
