I would like to upgrade to MEPIS 8.5, but I looked at KDE 4.3 and didn't like it. (It's not so much that I dislike it as that I find KDE 3.5 fine and have no interest in changing.) If I install MEPIS 8.5, is there any way to switch back to KDE 3.5 afterward?

I'm aware I could switch to some non-KDE desktop manager if I don't like KDE 4.3--I've looked at LXDE--but that solves nothing, since I really just want to keep KDE 3.5.

I suppose this post could belong in Software or General, but since it involves MEPIS 8.5, I put it here in the MEPIS forum.

You are free to choose what ever desktop you'd like. I'm not sure exactly how Mepis uses packages or how they handle anything because I've never used it, however you can compile KDE3.5.10 from source and use it. This is the place to go my friend.

Yeah. No prob. Just start stuffing code into Mepis. That'll work.
If you know everything about Linux, and 90% about Debian, you might still know nothing about Mepis.

You're right, I don't know anything about Mepis and I stated that in my post, however compiling from source will ALWAYS prove results. But it's up to the end user to know enough about their system to be able to build applications and even Desktop Managers from source. All Mepis did when they built the deb package for their desktops were to redirect the compilation process to a "sub-tree" that they then package up and install. Building from source and installing a package BOTH PRODUCE the same binaries. The only difference may be that Mepis themed it or added a couple extra applications before packaging it to make it specific for their distribution. Other than that, "stuffing code" into Mepis will work and it will provide the results wanted. If not, then you compiled it wrong.

Use trinity. More of us will use it more chances it will survive. Now I am working with KDE 3.5.10
but I plan to move on to Trinity.

I'll look at it. Hmm...I was hoping to see some screenshots of it. Is it a rebranded KDE 3.5, or is it merely similar?
