can't move items on the taskbar

For example... My desktop selector is stuck in the middle and I don't see any way to move it. Is there something locked somewhere in a setting? Does anyone know how I can fix this? I know in KDE 3.4 there are little handles for moving items on the taskbar, but I don't see any of these in KDE 3.3 in Mepis. Please help.

Those handles can be made transparent via the control settings. If you right click to the left of the icon - where the handle would be, you will get the menu for the icon which includes locking the icon.

Right Click "Configure Panel"

Layout >> Apperence >> Advanced Options >> Applet Handles

Select Visible or Fade radio buttons...
