Im not too sure that you can do this using the Live version of Mepis. Even though i have Mepis on my hdb, i still cant format a partition without going through the whole install process again.

Maybe someone else knows a way to do that.

Is this after Mepis is installed along with Suse? and they all installed on the same partition?

unfortunately yes as i had no way of formating HDA7 where they currently are although i did delete all grubs and lilo's so it had a fair chance i then re-installed grub boot loader for mepis and restarted booting from hda as strangely there is no distinction between partitions on my bios so it was pot luck it booted then three lines of text appeared and then again nothing :sob:
hope this gives more of an incite as to why nothing seems to work on this god forsaken laptop ! <god bless MEPIS live as without it you wouldn't be reading this lol>
thanks

Questions

1. How many hard drives (not partitions) do you have?
2. How many operating systems are you running and on which hard drives?
3.Do Mepis and Suse have to be on the same hard drive?

okay in answer to your question <from the top>
1 hard drive but am buying a new externall today
currently havs no "fixed" OS but i have xp <yuk> on a disk and wish to place this on 1 partition <the bigger one> and then i may stick suse debian or mepis on the other partition or the externall HD and i only want one or the other just so i can format the larger partition on which XP will be put on.

and i am un-aware of what and how Qtpart works/does but i shall find out
hope this helps

Id use half of your 1st HD for winxp and linux by partitioning it into 2 partitions, or maybe 3 if you want a seperate /home partition. Just make sure the linux partitions are ext3 and not NTFS that windows runs on.

As for your external, well, id format that as FAT32 so you can have Linux and Windows both read from that drive.

Man i hate external hard drives

I suppose you have a good reason to over pay for an external hard drive
as opposed to the cheaper internal install.
Anyway i'd give half of drive C to Win XP and make the other half a fat32 partition.
I'd give all of the other drive to Mepis . You could leave some room on the second
drive for another linux distro if you like fooling around .
