Audio CDs in Mepis
When I start KsCD and start playing a audio CD, it plays it and shows correct details but I can't hear any sound. Nothing wrong with speakers or those, I can hear everything else except MIDI and audio CD. I've configured ALSA with alsaconf and have set up the correct volume.
What do I need to do to get it working?

I had that same problem with every distro I've used. I think I read somewhere that Linux attaches sound-out capability to only one CD-ROM drive at a time (can someone confirm or deny this?). Do you have two CD-ROM drives? I've also found KsCD to be a bit buggy. Have you tried playing the CD using Xine? Have you tried using Gnome instead of KDE?

This is from memory
Stop playback, click Extras, Configure KsCD, Cd Player, put an "x" in Use direct digital playback, click apply should be good to go

Nothing Works
KSCd simply doesn't work. I substituted Xine or Kaffine which both work, by far XMMS is the best.

This is so obvious it is easy to forget, but in KMix, the sound for CD playback may not be turned on by default. You may need to click on the green light to highlight it, or move a slider up about halfway from the down position.

KsCD works fine with mepis 3.3. In fact I am typing this while listening to Massive Attack on KsCD.
Make sure you follow the advice from RonRussell and Pete M to configure it properly.

Hey. I've seen this option before on other distros. I'm not on mepis..but I have kde3.4.1 installed on suse...and I do not have this option in KsCD! I've even compiled the CVS version..and still don't have this.
Any idea? Thanks.
