ATi Drivers White Screen when X Starts

After installing the ATi Drivers on Mepis I get a white screen on reboot.

I'm using Mepis x64 and the latest version of the ATi driver from the ATi website (Version 9.5) and I have an HD4850. On Ubuntu 8.04-9.04 the driver installs and works, works fine on OpenSuSE 11.0 & 11.1, Works on Slackware after compiling the kernel with MSI Support. On Debian 5 I get the white screen on log in just like with Mepis.

Perhaps there's a dependency I'm missing in both Debian and Mepis since they are the same OS at the core, anyone got the (9.3-9.5 series at least) ATi Drivers working on Mepis 8 or Debian 5?
