Apache?


When i originally installed MEPIS a few weeks ago, I agreed to running apache ... Now the fun starts. How do i turn it off? as in stop running and dont start unless i tell you too (even stop it from loading on boot). I dont need it so...

Here is part of the answer. To stop apache2, as root:

apache2ctl stop

See: man apache2ctl

I'll be watching to see how to keep apache from starting at boot as I don't know how it's done in Debian. It's easy in Slackware.

The easiest way to stop Apache from loading at boot is to change the /etc/init.d/apache2 script from executable to not executable. The same applies for any other init script you want to disable.

If later you decide to re-enable it, just change it back to executable.

Install SYSV with synaptic and this will allow you to edit your services that start at boot
