Congrats!

Congratulations, flanksteak!

If it's working well for you, don't mess with the betas, wait until Mepis 6.5 goes final

But let me tell you, 6.5 beta7 really rocks! I have it on my laptop, and it's faster than WindowsXP, which is what the machine was designed for, according to the little sticker on the front.

Smile Re; The DVD Finally arrived

One thing that really impressed me with the new 6.5 Rc1 was the way it would load the right nvidia driver while I was using the live cd. Haven't seen that one before. Really neat.
Plus 6.5 is really great overall, and I have used all of the MEPIS versions since 3.3

This is a big advantage, and IMNSHO a reasonable courtesy to the user.
I mean, you haven't been used to expecting it, but when you get a feature like this, you just feel good: "Well, yeah! Why not?"

Me, too! on the Mepis versions. . . I had the fam on 3.3-1 as the main distro for the family computer. When Dapper came out, I switched them to try it out, but when Mepis 6.0 came out, they were back to the tried & true.

My own computer has been more up & down, back & forth. I was building a new machine in the late 2005 early 2006 months, and while my previous custom-made was from 1999-2000, it had an ATI All-in-Wonder which does not work in Linux. So I used Win2000 a lot until I got my present box done, with an nVidia grafx card. The present machine --"The Klingon"-- started out with SUSE 10.0 as the primary OS, alpha-tested Dapper on the side, and went through several other test distros until Mepis 6.0 came out and . . . what was the point of anything else?

I'm still a distro junky, so I have several spare partitions on my hda drive I can plug distros into to test drive. --I think we talked about that on another forum --you do the same, right? With the chainloading GRUB menu?

Smile Chainloading

That's right Silverbear2006 I chainload all of my 'extra' linuxs through my main grub install. My main grub install is installed to the Mbr of hda. All of the rest of the chainloaded operating systems MUST have grub installed to root.I am chainloading 9 operating systems right now. I load grub to root on the extra linux installs and set up my main grub with an addition like this for an install that is on, or will be on hdb5
title test distro at hdb5
rootnoverify (hd1,4)
chainloader +1

Now with that entry into my main grub I can install ANY linux to that root partition, load grub to root when I install and I never have to re-edit grub to make the install on hdb5 boot. As long as I install grub to root on that partition I can simply change from knoppix to sidux to kanotix to debian to SimplyMEPIS 3.4.3 or any linux that can install grub to root and as soon as the install is done I can boot into that partition because I have already told grub that there is a root partition on hdb5 that has a bootloader. Grub doesn't care what is in the title. Neat huh?

Another neat thing to do is to make your partitions that you will install to and then edit your main grub with an edit like the one I already scribed in for you. You can make these edits long before you ever install anything in that spot. When you do make an addition like this you never have to change the title unless you feel like it.

Found out how to do this reading this post,
http://www.justlinux.com/forum/showt...hreadid=147959
It's a post where a guy explains how to set up grub. This guy installed 145 systems on one computer and they all could boot. Sounds too hard but it is too easy. You'll see.....
