add-apt-repository doesn't work

Hi guys, Debian is probably my favorite distros, closely followed by Slackware, but i've being playing around with Mepis, and am finding i like it a fare bit too, and have commited to an install on my macbook pro. I'm using the Ubuntu wiki from her:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Ma...ro7-1/Maverick
for help on getting it to work right with the hardware.
As su, i use the command, add-apt-repository ppa:mactel-support.
It doesn't work. It says that add-apt-repository is an unknown command. I even went as far as to install Ubuntu on my debian machine into a vm, and use the command and then check, the sources.list afterwards, but there was no line added in the Ubuntu vm, but it did work. So what should i do guys.

That is because it is an Ubuntu command and NOT a Debian command. Mepis is based on Debian not Ubuntu.

Open ( as root or sudo ) /etc/apt/sources.list with your preferred editor,
and add two lines
Code:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/mactel-support/ubuntu maverick main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/mactel-support/ubuntu maverick main
http://bitmath.org/code/mactel/
Finally : # apt-get update
... And you can install the packages.

..

Sorry bout getting back to you guys late. Thankyou for the help and links, unfortunately my macbook pro is the 7.1 model and that debian wiki page doesn't want much to do with that model with Squeeze.
Thanks for the repos knudfl, that was exactly what i needed.
