Soundcard for manjaro ?
Hello Linux community,
Before making my switch from windows to manjaro, I noticed, while checking if my hardware will run appropriately, that my soundcard does not seem to be supported (ASUS Xonar Phoebus). Everything else seems to be fine (at least according to the arch wiki, which I assume is a good indicator for manjaro as well). Since my mainboard is an older model (ASrock X79 extreme4), I don't expect it to have particularly good onboard sound, leave alone anything comparable to my soundcard.
Corona allowed me to delay my plans of buying a new laptop since I can continue my studies from my home country. Therefore I see two potential options for making the switch to linux on my desktop and keeping better sound quality.
Either I get a new soundcard or I get an external DAC.
If I'd go for the former option I wouldn't want to spend much money (~ x < 80€) since I momentarily do not plan to update my desktop any time soon and I would not be able to use that card with a new laptop, which I will probably buy after new years.
If I'd choose the latter option, I could likely improve the sound on my laptop in the future every time I'm not on the move. That's why I would be comfortable paying some more for that (x < 140€).
I'm not that educated when it comes to audio equipment, that's why I could use a little help. Whatever device I would buy, it would have to support my mmx300 headset (gen.1) which is 300 ohms impedance. I don't need anything fancy like exchangeable amps but it would be nice if there would be some usable software for the thing which enables surround sound and is compatible with linux.
At the moment I tend towards the soundcard option since I'm not sure how much I'll use my headset on the laptop in the future but a quick google search didn't put out many 300 ohm options.
I hope someone can give my some advice
Thanks in advance
Felix
