Yet another 10.1 install - 'NO CDROM DEVICE FOUND'
 

Okay, yes I'm yet another sufferer of the dreaded 'no CDROM device found' msg whilst trying to install 10.1 onto my new PC. I have read a lot of the responses to the other posters that have mentioned this problem - and tried some of the solutions (if applicable and if I could find the relevant settings), but I am STILL unable to install 10.1 onto my new PC (I happily installed it onto my old PII 333Mhz box - runs SLOW but it installed - ATA drives!)
( I have installed Mandrake previously - my favourite - since back in the # 6 or #7 days, then 8, 8.2, 9.0 9.1, 9.2 - all on my old PII box though).
I actually took some photos of the failures (ALT-F3 & ALT-F4) but they're REALLY fuzzy - If someone can help, I'll take some more clearer ones if that helps!

I have tried things like passing parms 'Expert, NOAPCI, NOLAPIC, NOAPIC, making a boot floppy (same result as CD)

Funny thing is, I installed Suse #9.2 the other weekend onto my new PC and it went without a hitch - smooth as! So what's wrong with the Mandrake install???
BTW - I don't like the SusE distro - it was only a test!

Have you try typing alt1 to boot into another kernel and when it ask for what you are using choose cdrom

Another thing is to use SuSE to create a partition where the cd is copied to and use hd install instead

Milo4t... I have EXSAUTLY the same problem! like u i've tried all "passing parms 'Expert, NOAPCI, NOLAPIC, NOAPIC, making a boot floppy etc... i've even installed SuSe 9.2 as a test as well 0o (installed without a hitch)

P.S: i heavily suspect the small group of ppl having these problems are due to something that isn't compatiple on the mother board to Mandrake... e.g. the 856PE chipset, i asked my local computer guru (a.k.a class mate) if he could solve it... he came to the same conculsion.. he has had similar problems like this before... but he has also found "Linux supported chipset drivers" he found found onefor my mother board "gigabyte 856PE" but there was only a red hat one... and he said that wouldn't work...

I'm sorry for that last post. I pressed <ENTER> or something before I typed anything!

I have done some more research and it seems as though neither my DVD-ROM drive or my DVD-RW are hardware that are supported by Mandrake 10.1, so that may be the problem. Although I can't see that being a problem as SuSe can find both of them so some version of Linux don't have a problem .

Anyway, for awitp - what sort of partition should I create to copy the CDROM to so that Mandrake can read it for a 'hard drive install' - a Windows FAT, FAT32, NTFS, Ext2, Ext3, ReiserFS etc. etc.
or doesn't it matter - Mandrake install routine can read them all?
