After very little mucking around (thanks, Linuxant) my Winmodem is now a Linmodem, and works beautifully with KPPP.
However, KMail and Mozilla don't want to know. As far as they are concerned, there is no Internet access. When I use the wizard to configure an Internet connection, it finds the modem and just throws its hands up in despair (not supported blah blah)
How do I reassure Bamboo that everything is okay, and just to go ahead and use dev/modem?
Well I'll be. I just installed the nvidia driver for my dear old GForce2 (can now run the KEuphoria screen saver - woo) and thought I'd give this connection one more try.
We have tone. I am not Samba-ed up to my laptop - could that be making all the difference?
Anyway. Happy camper and all that. Makes it all seem worth while
