xorg update and ATI driver

Hello everyone;

When I installed MDV2006 there were some bugs related to Xorg and ATI video cards, so I update xorg to the cooker version and then I magenede to install the ATI driver for mi ATI Radeon 9200 SE.
I did and "init 3" command and when executed the BIN driver (50 MB aprox.) downloaded from the ati website. It took me a lot of time to have it well installed.

Now that I have recently seen in the "updates" repository that there are Xorg updates, I have a main doubt:

-If I update the Xorg system (the one in "updates" is newer), will the ATI driver (fglrx) continue running well or will I have to install it again?

I would like to go though the uninstalling process of the driver and trying to install it again...

Thank you very much in advance.

The ATI linux proprietory driver builds a kernel module that the Xorg server uses at runtime. Yes you will most likely have to rebuild this kernel module, as you will be using a different version of the X server.

It shouldn't hurt to try to run X without re-installing the ATI driver. But I doubt the fglrx module will load properly in the new version of X.

Installing the ATI driver shouldn't be too much a problem. Just make sure you have your kernel sources installed, and that their version corresponds with the kernel you have.
