xchat and identd question

I am running Mandrake 10.1 and want to usee Xchat to log into EFnet.

Problem I am running into is it complains about not having identd installed when it is, here is the message I get trying to conect to EFnet server:

Looking up Princeton.NJ.US.Undernet.Org
* Connecting to Princeton.NJ.US.Undernet.Org (209.67.60.33) port 6667...
* Connected. Now logging in...
* *** Checking Ident
* Please install identd in order to use this server.
* Closing Link: fdtgfgrafa by Princeton.NJ.US.Undernet.Org (K-lined)
* Disconnected (Remote host closed socket).

now I installed the pidentd rpm and it shows up in my Mandrake System Configuration Tool as running tho I still get the above message when trying to connect.

Also, I have no firewalls enabled according the the config tool.

suggestions?

You need to make sure port 113 is enabled in your firewall so identd can set up its server.

It could also be an issue with your router. If you are using a router, make sure you map public port 113 to your LAN IP (you want to set the private port to 113 as well).

According to Mandrake Control Center: Firewall is not enabled, check mark is where it says: Everything (No Firewall)

I do have a router but I am able to connect to other IRC servers that dont require identd to be up and running, and also can connect from this same machine/router setup in Windows. I will however try it without the router to see if it makes a difference.

Well, the router was the problem as you said. I disconnected it and it worked first try.. guess its time to hit up my router internals.

Thanks for the help!
