I hate to have to ask this, but did you try to restart your pc?

Type init 6 as root, or just simply press ctrl+alt+del. As for the terminal. When you press ctrl+1-ctrl+6 you get a linux terminal. Do not confuse them with kde's konsole. Konsole just emulates the terminal. After typing this i started realizing that you somehow have access to X(or windows) because you probably aren't posting this from lynx so you probably did restart. When you get to the terminal try typing init 3 and then startx.

i tried all that i just reinstalled...it didnt seem to want to cooperate...thank you all for your help though..
