wired or wireless

I want to network my 2 laptops. My sony has Windows 2000 and my thinkpad has Mandrake 9.1. I would prefer to use wireless but it seems to be pretty flaky with linux from what I have read. Has anybody got 802.11g working with Mandrake 9.1. What pc card (pcmcia/cardbus) did you use?
I would also appreciate knowing about any "wired ethernet" pc card that worked with Mandrake 9.1 before I make a purchase.

You'll be suprised how many wireless cards work under linux. There are many drivers out there. What type of card do you have? I would suggest a "ORiNOCO Wireless" card. This is a prism2 chipset and is supported by all linux distros as far as I know.

You will need a access point. So you may want to use your eth0 connection for your linux box to the wireless AP. And then connect to the linux laptop server with the windows laptop.

I would also suggest an orinoco card. They will either use the prism2_cs driver or the orinoco_cs driver, both of which come with the kernel-source for kernels 2.4 and up.

I used the Lioncom Wireless usb on my laptop running Man 9.1.

No configuration is necessary works without a problem.

I also use the Lioncom wireless adsl 4 port switch as a base station. Set up with a ethernet from a machine running 9.1 with no problem. I have disconnected any fixed connection to the device and use the wireless all the time.
