Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

Windows/Linux dual boot with RAID 0
Hi all, this is my first post on the LQ forums One of the hard drives in my RAID 0 array just died a few days ago (luckily I had a batch file that backed up some files for me automatically) and the new one is on the way. Taking advantage of the opportunity, I've decided to do a dual boot with Windows and Linux. Does anybody have any ideas on good Linux systems for newbies (I have Red Hat 9 and Mandrake 9.2). I checked out the HighPoint site, and they don't list Mandrake as a supported distro for their RAID drivers. However, a friend recommended I use Mandrake over Red Hat. Any ideas on a preferred distro keeping in mind that it will have to work with a RAID array? And is there a best way to setup a dual boot? I'll be using two Maxtor 40GB 7200 RPM HDDs. Thanks in advance.
i'd say stick with mandrake if want to regulary receive updates. rhl9 updates are only up to april 2004 (if i remember it right). if your doing a clean install, it's easier to setup the dual boot configuration. just install windows first in your first partition then install linux with the RAID setup (just don't touch the windows partition u have just created). Mandrake 10 has some very good feed back in one of our local mailing lists here in the philippines in terms of performance and h/w support. why not try that one?
