Why does Mandrake's version of Emacs (not XEmacs) not have a toolbar?

Why does the emacs package shipped with Mandriva not have a toolbar gui for things like Open, Save, Cut, Paste, etc. It appears to only have the File, Edit, Options menu, but no gui toolbar. How can I enable the toolbar in this version of emacs?

You can't... emacs is not an X application. You may want to look into XEmacs

Those options should be available under the file section on the toolbar.

Of course it is. Emacs will detect if you have X running and will show a window if so.

The unusual appearance of that screen is because emacs gui was created with X11 API instead of GTK or QT.

xemacs has a completely different appearence and was probably built with GTK API.

Look at the wiki on the emacs site to put the toolbars.
