which kernel

I installed Mandrake 10.1 on my laptop & everything seems to be fine. I downloaded drivers for my cisco wireless card & they only work with kernel v 2.4.xx. I don't remember having an option when I installed but I have read about switching kernel versions. How do I get v 2.4 so I can use my wireless? Thanks

I BELIEVE the 2.4 kernel, kernel-source & kernel-docs are on the first installation CD.

These must be manually installed by mounting the disk

rpm -Uvh kernel-2.4.x.xxx.rpm

etc.

When you reboot you'll get a new startup option to boot from the 2.4 kernel.

Unfortunately, 10.1 Community does NOT include any 2.4.x kernels, so you'll have to go to http://www.kernel.org and download the latest one (2.4.27 is the last STABLE kernel of that series). I just got 2.6.9 for my Slack 10 installation and while it is not difficult to compile and install, it can be rather confusing to configure. Just make sure that anything that currently loads as modules are compiled as modules in your build.

Hope it works out for you.

This being the case then you are better off downloading the 10.0 Mandrake RPM's for the 2.4 kernel.

You'll need the kernel and the kernel-source rpms.
