I'm running a AMD64 machine, and I saw MAndrake is available for this platform. I've looked at linuxiso.org, but I don't know which version I have to download.
Can somebody please help me finding an ISO for Linux64?
They also advertise v9.2 for AMD64 only available to their "silver" members, or for $100 at mandrakestore.com. There's more information at http://www.mandrakesoft.com/products/92/amd64
I've been debating whether to buy a new AMD64 machine. I'm trying to find a 64-bit operating system that will work for me, and have yet to come up with one.
Thanks for the replies; I've looked around a bit more, and I found mandrake 10 Community Edition, does that version also support 64 bit instruction sets?
v10 doesn't support 64-bit yet, and I haven't seen anything to indicate that it will any time soon. I also found that you can ONLY BUY v9.2 64-bit release version. The "silver member" thing was wrong.
Also, since v9.2 is on the old kernel (2.4), that's a consideration.
Other options that I've found:
Suse with a $120 64-bit version. Also on the old kernel
Gentoo - in with the only free 64-bit version that I've seen, and it's on the 2.6 kernel. Although, you have to compile the whole thing yourself (the folks on the gentoo site are a mix of "it's not that hard" and "I SPENT THREE DAYS INSTALLING THIS DAMN THING AND I'M GONNA CHOKE MYSELF WITH MY MOUSE"). But, it is free. Oh, it also doesn't have any 32-bit driver support. The others have both. But, did I mention that it's free?
AMD apparently did support the Mandrake version at a recent trade show.
Cheers,
