Where-O-Where - In Despair - files 10.1

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Greetings Mandirva's - having used Mandrake 10.0 for several months now (and love it) - I am still at a bit of loss as where to find or put files. I must admit it is so much better than Windows, but that's another story.

I have just upgraded to 10.1 with the Cd's that were sent to me from Mandrake, but now find the splash screen sound does not work. On boot up one of the files shows up in red (Failed) - I think it is ini or imi, its runs too quick for me to see.

My problem is not finding my way around KDE with the mouse, but if I get small problems like this - how/where do I begin to attempt to rectify them.

I have read about the file structure i.e. bin files are for the binary, var files for logs etc but the frustrating part is even if you manage to locate the file that is causing a problem - 'Where can I find out what to do to help solve problems?'

Hope someone can give me some advice on this, so just to recap - have no sound on the splash screen when starting 10.1 after my upgrade from 10.0. I do have sound when I test it in 'configure desktop/sound'

Many thanks for reading this.
I hope this is posted in the right department, if not then please excuse my error.

google for 'easy urpmi'. Install 'updates', 'main', and 'contrib'. This will allow you to get all the files you'll ever need. As to where to put them, when you install using RPM or URPMI, they go where the package installer tells them. ex: /usr/bin Keep your personal files under your home directory /home/yourname. That's how I keep from getting myself into trouble

I'll bet if you use MCC, mandriva control center, to check and install updates, you're KDE problem will most likely go away...

10.1 files

Many Thanks for your reply, most appreciated. I have been using the control center whilst using Mandrake 10.0 and that worked a treat, had no problems whatsoever, hope it will help solve the problems I have with 10.1. Thanks again for you help. Good Luck.
