i'm using mandrake 10.1 official, and during installation, i selected only "gnome" as the desktop environment. i want to know which "window manager" i am running now...how do i find that out?!
Distribution: Mac OS X Leopard 10.6.2, Windows 2003 Server/Vista/7/XP/2000/NT/98, Ubuntux64, CentOS4.8/5.4

You can choose and find out by logging out and logging back in. When you log back in, you have the option of selecting your Window manager, like KDE, GNome, etc..
That's one way to play around with that. Also, you can look in your Mandrake Control Center to choose what Window manager you want or are using.
i think it is metacity, bcoz (i hadnt noticed b4), when i startx, one of the entries says "metacity".
micro, i dont get that option when i log on bcoz, during the mandrake install, i selected to only install gnome, and not kde. in the mandrake control center too, i couldnt find where it said what my window manager was, though there was an option to select between xdm and gdm for the "display manager" (no idea what xdm and gdm is, anyway!)
