what is the community edition?

Hi all,
I am interested in a free version of mandrake linux. I have found somewhere the mandrake 10.0 Community edition, but I don't see it listed in the official products of the mandrake website.
Is this version free like the official discovery version?
If it's free how does it compare with the discovery version?
thanks a lot, i really need your help.
regards,
geo

Community is a beta version.
You'd be better off with 10.0 official.
They're all free.

The comunity versions are usually stripped of the stuff, you have to pay for in the official version. They however are comparable to the official version. If you want to try Mandy 10, use comunity, but later if you intend to use it, if you see it fit your needs, you better buy the official version.

The community edition is a 3 cd free download and the official edition is a 3 cd free download and they both have all the same stuff except the cummunity edition is has way more bugs.

Why would you try a buggy release when you can try a good one?

If I do all the updates for Mandrake 10 CE does that make it pretty much the official release?

Or should I get the official iso's and use them?

Is official really free? I couldn't find it in their website. OR are ISOs to it somewhere else?

List of download sites for 10.0 Official from the Mandrake site itself.

I have found that the install on the official CDs is much safer than than install with the community edition.

For example with the community edition, even after all the updates, I had to uninstall cups and reinstall it to get it to work with my printer.

With the community CDs I have seen problems after manually adding and subtracting packages to install during installation. If I only added or subtracted main groups of programs, things went smoothly, but If I went in and started adding and subtracting individual packages, it would cause problems.

Also, updates for the community edition frequently broke things and so far updates with the official edition have been rock solid. Maybe they are lined out for community now, but why bother to find out?
