what are asc / idx files

Hi,
I've just downloaded the free Mandriva 2007 edition. I just transferred the ISO images to CD to begin the install, but the install crashes just after loading the Linux kernel. Should the downloaded asc and idx files have been put on the boot cd?
What are these files for? Otherwise, has anyone else had problems with installing Mandriva?

No, those files are not part of the iso images. They are just text files that contain package lists and gpg keys.

Distribution: Mandriva mostly, vector 5.1, tried many.Suse gone from HD because bad Novell/Zinblows agreement

Can you be more specific?
Is it working now
Try kernel boot parameters
acpi=off noapic nolapic nopinit video=vesa

also try combination alt, ctrl F2-F4 to see more messages
alt-ctrl-f7 to come back to to gui
