I have Mandriva 2006/64 installed on two partitions (hda3 and hda8). hda8 is a back up of hda3, created by copying all the files from hda3, and modifying fstab. The hda8 partition works perfectly.
The hda3 partition has decided not to install the usb module. As a quick fix, I reformated hda3, and copied all the files from hda8. On first boot, the usb module works, BUT on the next boot, the module is not installed!
If I do: lsmod | grep usb
usblp 16512 0
usbcore 121388 1 usblp
I now find although adding the three lines to /etc/modprobe.preload "fixed" the problem for my printer, my other usb devices like scanner and camera are not being found.
Can someone tell me what I need to do to solve this??
I have found that the cause of this problem is a line in lilo.conf. When I rem out "initrd=/boot/initrd.img", the system boots and all usb functions work as they should. Here is the amended lilo.conf:
When lilo.conf contains the line "initrd=/boot/initrd.img" the screen has the graphic display, but when the line "initrd=/boot/initrd.img" is rem-ed out, there is only a text display.
