This is a weird problem. It happened on Mandriva 2005 and now I've got it on 2006. I thought it was kde but it seems it may be Mandriva.
I have installed the OpenOffice suite from OpenOffice and Firefox from Mozilla - I do not use the Mandriva versions partly because I want to keep up to date without waiting for Mandriva and for longer than they provide updates but also because I prefer to have software which has not passed through an extra set of hands.
I have selected Firefox as the default browser using KDE >Components >Component Chooser. When I click on a web link (the latest examples, OpenOffice and kaffeine), somehow a copy of the web page is downloaded and the copy is opened in Firefox.
Does anyone know how and why that is happening and which file/s to alter to stop it? If I do not select a browser with the Component Chooser, but leave the default setting, the web link opens the page in Konqueror. Why the difference? Can the OS not handle third party software?
EDIT: craigevil gave me
this link in response to a post in another forum. All I had to do was add %u to the command in file associations. Easy when you know.
