Wakeup with USB keyboard

Anyone know if there's a way to enable my USB keyboard to wake up my laptop display after it blanks? I have APM settings setup in my bios so that the screen blanks after about 15 or something of non-activity. The thing is, the computer's only responsive to either my touchpad (this is a Toshiba Satellite Laptop) or embedded keyboard. So if I'm typing with my USB keyboard at my desk or whatnot, the display will blank even if I'm in mid-keystroke. It's kindof annoying to have to reach over and hit my embedded keyboard when this happens. So I guess I asking: Why isn't imput from USB devices, specifically keyboards, recognized as activity that would keep my display from blanking? Is there a way to fix it?

On a side note, my touchpad has ceased to work after I reinstalled Mandrake 9.1 a coupla months ago. It used to function alongside my USB keyboard. Is there something in Harddrake I'm overlooking? Or do I need to manually edit some config files or what? Lemme know.

Thanks in advance,
Jon

First you should check your BIOS to ensure that all your 'wake on XXX' settings are correct. Then you'll want to confirm that you have the HID events built-in (or built as modules) for your kernel. If you're comfortable with building and configuring a kernel then you know what to do. If not punch in 'uname -a' and post the optput here so we can see what kernel you're running.

Also a 'dmesg | grep usb' output might also help matters here as well.
