VNCSERVER Causes KDE Daemon to Crash

I installed TightVNC Server 1.2.9 on my Mandriva 2006 install using an RPM package found via the Mandriva RPM Manager. Shortly after starting (Tight) VNCSERVER using, I get a message indicating KDE Daemon (KDE) crashed. When I do a backtace I get the following:

What's in your ~/.vnc/xstartup?

Below please find the contents of my ~/.vnc/xstartup:

#!/bin/sh

# Mandrake Linux VNC session startup script
exec /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc

So its starting up KDE normally and you can login to your KDE session through VNC? If that's the case and you're just getting a crash in kded then i'd just ignore it, or if it annoys you disable or uninstall kat. Kat is a known cause of problems on Mandriva 2006.

Cool. I will give that a shot and report back. I am new to Linux and rely on this board and the internet as my only sources of support for Linux. I really appreciate the help of the members of this board.

Uninstalling KAT has fixed my KDE Daemon issue. Am I missing out by not having KAT. I used it once in the last two weeks?

Probably not, a lot of people have uninstalled it and it seems pretty common advice on these forums to uninstall it. Kat is like GNOME's Beagle or Google Desktop Search so its not essential. With it uninstalled you still have the normal GUI (Tools->Find File in Konqueror) and CLI (find, locate, grep) search programs.
