VNC Default Desktop setup

Hi, does anyone know the path of least resistance to changing the default desktop on the vncserver on Mandrake 10.1 from KDE to GNOME?

.vnc/xstartup seems to offer no quick answers. - Mine just says...

#!/bin/sh

# Red Hat Linux VNC session startup script
exec /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc

Thanks in advance for any help,
Rosooki

urpmi kdm

Switch your login manager to KDM in the MCC.

Restart the DM.

Now the login manager will have a "menu" tab that permits you to select the session type.

Any Window Managers you have installed via RPM/URPMI will be available on the list.

Nothing to it.

default VNC fix

Thanks for the two replies.

I added "gnome-session &" to the bottom of the .vnc/xstartup file, with no luck. I killed the vncserver and restarted it, but it still defaulted to the KDE desktop.

As for changing the window manager, I'm not sure how that will help. I'm not doing any logging in to the actual desktop through VNC. Once the vncserver is started, that's when KDE is coming up. So when I login to the connection, KDE is already running - ready and waiting. It looks like I need to change the default for the entire system to Gnome from KDE so that when the default is run by VNC automatically, it will run Gnome instead of KDE.

Thanks again, Rosooki.

That's the purpose of installing KDM.

It will adjust the login defaults to the WM you require or want to run under VNC.
