IPv6/IPv4, konqueror

Hi !

Just finished reading this thread in search for answer to konqueror's looooong time opening big directories. I know it's kinda wrong thread, but answers are appreciated !

Anyway, I see you all recmmend getting rid of IPv6. Don't know much about it, just read some press stuff saying it was way better than IPv4. Is it better in any way? and is it easy to re-install it?

thanks in advance!

By default Mandrake disables DMA mode on your hard drives.

You need to re-enable it to get decent peformance.

To do so, edit /etc/sysconfig/harddisks and UNCOMMENT the commented lines.

Then reboot.

While you are at it also edit /etc/lilo.conf and add the word "compact" (no quotes) toward (but not at) the top.

Then as root type "lilo".

The first will speed up performance once up.

The latter will speed up Kernel load times during bootup.

thanks!

Will test right away, thanks for the tips, no wonder I see a negative difference if DMA is off
