Using PEAP protocol and profile switching in Mandrake 10.2
 

My Uni uses a PEAP protocol to login to their wireless routers. Its basically our username and password for the Uni email system. My question is how can I configure Mandriva to access it? In Windows, it uses the PEAP protocol, and you have to check the option for "the key is provided automatically" under the WEP security. It bases the key off our username and password if Im not mistaken. Anyway, how can I set something up like this?

Second question. I use a few different access points, one where I live, one where I work, and the Uni network. Is there any way I can create profiles for these so that I can switch back and forth easily? I usually start and stop my wireless from the command line, but Im more than willing to use something that is GUI based if it will help.

If your still using Mandrake 9.1 then I have limited knowledge of what you can do regarding your profile problem.

I know the that the recent ones, that use the Mandriva Control Centre (MCC) allow you to create different profiles simply from the MCC interface. You can also choose which profile to use for each boot menu option, and I *think* selecting a different profile at boot if you do not choose a default. This may be what you are looking for, however, I realise how much of a pain upgrading may be.

As for PEAP, you may be able to use it with xsupplicant - but I have no knowledge of that at all. A very quick search on google gave this page though: http://oreillynet.com/pub/wlg/4598

Actually, Im using LE2005. I do need to change that in my profile.

In which case you should have no problems with the profiles. :) Load up the MCC and you should see on the menus 'Profiles'. Click 'new' and away you go.

FYI: I've just realised that it's called Mandriva Linux Control Centre (MLCC) in MDV2006 - It may be called that in LE2005.

Well, the problem with MCC is that every time I try to switch profiles, it freezes. :(

This is probably due to your network interfaces - make sure that you have the option 'Network Hotplugging' ticked for each interface on each profile.

I had exactly the same problem - it's down the interface trying to connect to their configured network and if they are unable to it takes them ages to timeout and assign themselves default IP's.

Ok, will try that and report back. Any ideas on the PEAP though? Can MDK do that natively? Im fixing to update to the 2006, downloading right now...

I don't know.

I think that you may be able to get it working, but I doubt that it will work 'out of the box'. There may be Mandriva Club RPMs that could help you, or you may need to compile them yourselves, but if you look for xsupplicant and wpa_supplicant you should be able to work out what to you need to get done.

If you manage to find any information out it would be extremely useful to post back here your progress.
